A
Strong Flooring
Foundation
Though The Floor Warehouse
(TFW) name may be new and
unfamiliar to the general
public, the TFW "family" of
companies is experiencing the
largest expansion in its 30
year history. Since 1985, the
TFW "family" has experienced
steady annual sales increases
of 30% to 60% over the previous
year. TFW has succeeded in
leading the floor covering
industry with its unique
business model, providing the
buying public with high quality
wood flooring products locally
advertised at the most
competitive prices while
tightly controlling its costs.
In 2006, TFW is now committed
to servicing the Internet buyer
through TheFloorWarehouse.com
and leveraging its unique
business model to bring
unbeatable true value directly
to the public. |
|
Background
TFW has always run counter to
the norm in the wood flooring
distribution business. Like so
many other industries, the flow
of wood flooring products
typically originate with the
manufacturer, onward to
distribution, to retailer, and
finally to the homebuilder,
contractor, and the consumer.
Big Box store retailers, like
the predecessors to Home Depot
and Lowe's, were the first to
begin setting up their own
distribution channels, direct
from building products
manufacturers, and included
wood flooring products. Since
this time, many other players
have entered the market in
similar fashion. Today, Mohawk
Industries, and Shaw World
Industries are the largest two
retail distributors. Both are
large floor covering
distribution companies selling
flooring products direct to the
retailer, who in turn add a
typical profit margin of 40%
before selling to the consumer.
This distribution model has
effectively cut some of the
traditional multi-tier flooring
distribution channels in North
America. However, this newer
distribution model still
carries high overhead costs
such as real estate expenses,
many employees, and
commissioned sales associates
at both the wholesale and
retail levels, all of which
substantially increases the
final sales price. |
|
Direct
Wholesaler
TFW has also proved itself as a
direct distributor and supplier
to homebuilders, contractors,
and consumers, but without the
high overhead of others. TFW
only uses commercial warehouses
to store, show, and handle the
more than five million square
feet of wood flooring products.
Strategically found in more
than 100 different locations
throughout America, TFW
warehouses typically are open
Monday through Friday during
daytime business hours. The
result is high quality flooring
products offered at the most
competitive prices anywhere in
the U.S. Besides cost savings,
TFW customers benefit from
lower, or no, shipping costs
because of the large number
warehouse locations. Further,
the customer enjoys a higher
overall quality of product
because of less handling, and
because the wood is acclimated
to local temperature and
humidity. |

Current Business
Position
TFW is the second largest
importer of solid wood flooring
from Brazil into the United
States, and preserves exclusive
import programs with only the
highest quality suppliers. In
addition, TFW is steadily
increasing its buying of other
wood flooring items, still
broadening its flooring
offerings.
TFW’s
current wood flooring inventory
is some the highest quality and
best value hard surface
flooring now available for sale
in the United States. Having
the right inventory selection
and quantities on hand has had
a direct influence on
TFW’s
continued annual sales growth.
TFW has experienced a sales
volume increase of 546% in the
period January 2001 through
December 2005. This places TFW
in the top 20 of flooring sales
companies in the United
States. |
|
Quality
Matters
TFW is not only about low
cost. TFW is about
quality product for a great
price. We believe one way to
push our overall quality
initiative is to bring more and
more of the final flooring
preparations into the U.S. to
optimize quality control and to
insure that only the best
flooring reach our
customers. |
Growth
Expectations
TFW expects increasing sales
volume in the coming fiscal
year by continuing expansion
throughout the U.S., not only
in the number of locations but
also by refining its product
mix to attract and service more
customers. The wood
flooring market is the fastest
growing segment in the floor
covering industry today with
this trend expected to continue
for many years to come.
With the growth experience and
knowledge of its market, TFW
will be able to continue
increasing sales with
double-digit expansion every
year into the future. |
